Help Participate in a National Survey

Volunteering Australia invites all volunteers and not for profit organisations that involve volunteers to participate in the 2008 National Survey of Volunteering Issues. The survey takes around 10-15 minutes to complete and is open until 16th March.

The National Survey of Volunteering Issues helps Volunteering Australia understand what issues are emerging in the sector and what factors help and hinder effective volunteering. Volunteering Australia uses this information to formulate policy positions to put to government, and also to target where our research and consultation efforts should be directed.  Follow the link on the Volunteering Australia website home page at www.volunteeringaustralia.org

Free WAVE Training: Registrations now open
WAVE is a condensed training program aiming to increase the confidence of individuals and organisations in the management of volunteers.  WAVE is designed to outline the most critical aspects that a busy or unpaid person managing a community organisation needs to understand to ensure their volunteer program is efficient and effective.  A series of metro and regional one day workshops will be conducted.

The manual is now available online or download here.

Lotterywest Capacity Building Grants
Each year, Lotterywest makes over 1000 grants to WA's community organisations. Many of these grants are to help organisations invest in their own development with initiatives like training, planning, conferences and professional development.

Police Checks for Aged Care Workers and Volunteers

Aged care workers will need police checks from 1 March 2007.

Police Checks for Volunteers in private sector and state government organisations
The Department for Communities is now able to offer private sector and state government organisations involving volunteers National Police Checks at a reduced fee of $10.00 per person.

Volunteering Australia Resource: Involving Volunteers with a DisAbility
Volunteering Australia has released a series of informative and useful online resources for volunteer managers and not-for-profit organisations on how to involve volunteers with a DisAbility in your organisation.

Working with Children Checks
Are you involved in child related work? The new Working with Children (Criminal Record Checking) Act 2004 introduces compulsory criminal record checking to ensure a consistent and high standard of checking for certain people who work with children, including volunteers.

The Working With Children Check phasing-in process requires existing volunteers who commenced work prior to 1 January 2007 to apply for a Working With Children Check by 31 December 2007.

It is highly recommended that existing volunteers apply as soon as possible to avoid last minute delays.
